Service Description

Bachata Performance Project Have you ever wanted to experience what it's like to perform? Are you curious about how Bachata can evolve from a social dance into a choreographed work of art? Or maybe you've always wondered what it takes to train, rehearse, and prepare for performance the way professional dancers do. If so, this performance project may be for you. Designed for dancers with a foundational understanding of Bachata, this project is intended for participants who are already comfortable with the basic step, timing, and introductory partner work. Rather than teaching the fundamentals, we'll build upon them to create a polished performance piece. Under the direction of choreographer Lisa M. Hines, dancers will spend four weeks learning an original Bachata choreography while experiencing the rehearsal process behind creating a performance work. Participants will not only learn movement and partnering but will also explore the discipline, conditioning, artistry, and commitment that transform choreography into a polished performance. Rehearsals: Saturdays | 1:00–2:30 PM August 8 August 15 August 22 August 29 Participants will be partnered with another dancer in the class and will work together throughout the rehearsal process. The project will culminate with two performance opportunities: September 5 – Noches Latinas, Downtown Greensboro (LeBauer Park) September 12 – Noche de Fiesta Festival, Reidsville Commitment Because this is a collaborative performance project, all participants are expected to commit fully to the rehearsal process. Participants are required to: Attend all Saturday rehearsals (no exceptions). Perform in at least one of the two scheduled performances. These expectations are in place to honor the creative work of the choreographer, respect the commitment of your fellow dancers, and uphold the discipline and collaborative spirit that make performance possible. Whether your goal is to step onto the stage for the first time, challenge yourself as a dancer, or experience Bachata in a new way, this project offers a unique opportunity to grow as both a performer and an artist. Prerequisite: Participants must have prior experience with the fundamentals of Bachata, including the basic step, timing, and introductory partner work.
